New York, New York…as they sing. This is the city of glamour and fashion, and some of its passionate patriots even commemorate the name of the city in the names of their companies – just as Donna Karan, a famous designer, did in the label DKNY – Donna Karan New York.
The company DKNY was founded in 1985 by Donna Karan and her husband Stephan Weiss. It is easily understood by from the name, that the company has its headquarters in Manhattan, and what is more (this is not derived from the name, though) more than seventy boutiques all over the world, including even Hong Cong and Dubai.
The main idea or the ruling principle of DKNY is the combination of luxury and comfort in its products. At first the head designer (Donna Karan herself) used to create only women’s clothes, but in 1992 DKNY launched its first male collection. 1992 was also the year for DKNY beauty collection to appear, which features fragrances and skin-care products. Nowadays the company has several branches, including DKNY Jeans, pure, DKNY Active, DKNY Underwear, DKNY Juniors, DKNY Kids, and DKNY Baby.
DKNY also operates on the e-market and is very successful in selling its collections on-line. Probably, it happens due to an unusual advertising gimmick – the company has created a special web-site, where every user can try the new collection by DKNY on the avatar or animated model.
