Diane Von Furstenberg (DVF) is nowadays one of the most popular names in American fashion, the name, known well behind the borders of the USA. The company was founded by the designer Diane Von Furstenberg in 1972, and in 1997 it was re-launched. During these years DVF has developed into a world-known luxury brand, that produces a wide range of ready-to-wear, swim, accessories, footwear and handbags. Diane Von Furstenberg can also boast being a partner of several leaders of luxury fashion, such as H.Stern (with this designer Diane Von Furstenberg created a collection of fine jewelry items ) and The Rug Company, that together with Diane Von Furstenberg launched a collection of signature rugs.
The headquarters of the company are located in New York, and there are 29 freestanding Diane von Furstenberg boutiques. They are located in all the big cities and shopping centers of the world, such as including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris, Moscow, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Tokyo. 56 countries host DVF collections in specialty retailer stores.
Diane von Furstenberg herself first appeared in the world of high fashion in 1972 with her famous wrap dress, from which, as from a seed, the whole fashion house has grown. Several millions of such dresses were sold by 1976, “coming to symbolize female power and freedom to an entire generation”, as the critics put it. In 1997 Diane von Furstenberg re-entered New York fashion scene, she also re-launched her famous dress and started to turn her relatively small company into a luxury empire, that is so well-known and prosperous today.
In 2005 Diane von Furstenberg received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for her valuable impact to fashion, and in 2006 she became CFDA's new president, which she continues to remain today.
