The world "Guerlinade" means a scent accord of amber or vanilla, included into a perfume. As you can guess by the name, the idea and the wide use belongs to Guerlain – the oldest perfume producer in Europe. Funny to say, but this most venerable don of the perfume sphere still finds the greatest inspiration in the smells of …confectionary.
The birth year of the company is 1828, when Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain opened his first boutique in Paris, where he started to work with his two sons. After his death the sons would inherit the business, and the younger one would become a chief perfumer. This would set up a rule for the family – one of the sons is always the chief perfumer in the company, trying his best to overcome the noble ancestors. Actually, the venerable folks had a lot to be learned from: Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain, the founder of the company, was named His Majesty's Official Perfumer in 1853 and also created perfumes for the British and Spanish royalties. However, today the gifted perfumer would not see his descendants at the top of the company: it joined the LVMH group in 1994 had has to obey to their rules. Four generations of Guerlain perfumers had worked for the company before that.
Speaking about the greatest scents, ever created by a Guerlain, we first of all should mention Eau de Cologne Impériale, the first scent, that made the company popular. Later came Jicky, Après L'Ondée, Mitsouko, Shalimar, L'Heure Bleue – holy names for a real perfumista. Unfortunately, after joining LVMH, the company had to change some of its old technologies, because of some ingredients being considered harmful.
