We are speaking about an Italian family of Biagiotti now – the family, that seems to have fashion right in its blood. We are speaking particularly about Laura Biagiotti, the daughter, the top Italian designer.
Laura Biagiotti was born in Rome in 1943. At first the girl wanted to become an archeologist, than she used to study literature at Rome university. However, her mother needed help in her dress making business, so Laura rushed to help and put all her talent into dress making. Her first fashion show took place in 1972.
Wikipedia names the House of Biagiotti (that has its headquarters at Via dei Condotti in Rome) among the biggest and most powerful and trendy fashion houses in Italy. In April 1988 Laura Biagiotti presented her designer collection in Beijing, being the first Italian fashion designer to do it. To become well aware of Chinese atmosphere, Laura Biagiotti had to move to China and to settle in its capital some years before the show.
The result of this deep investigation of Chinese market was Marco Polo award, received by Laura Biagiotti from the government of China “for promoting fashion in China”, as they put it. In 1995 Laura Biagiotti also got the award from the president of Italy for her valuable contributions to the art of fashion. Laura Biagiotti also is the nominant of the Leonardo Prize in Italy. A 41 Euro cent stamp featuring Laura Biagiotti was issued by the Italian post office in 2002. This woman deserves admiration for endless talent, bright ideas and braveness, that makes her not subdue to the giants of Italian fashion, but to remain a free artist.
