Together with the grands of Italian haut couture fashion we can’t but mention a person, that was, probably, the first to realize the necessity of mass production and customer orientation. His name is Achille Maramotti, and he is the founder of MaxMara – one of the biggest (with its 2254 locations in 90 countries of the world) and the most profitable (with its revenues of €1.2 billion) Italian companies.
Achille Maramotti created his fashion house in 1951. The name originates from the owner’s nickname Mara and the name of Count Max, “a local character who was seldom sober but always stylish”. Maramotti, as it has already been said, made his company customer-oriented and started to sell ready-to-wear clothes, later accessories and perfumes. The lines of MaxMara include Sportmax, Sportmax Code, Weekend Max Mara, Marella, Pennyblack, iBlues and Marina Rinaldi, as well as Max Mara womenswear (the most popular one) and Max & Co (a line for young customers). The total amount of MaxMara brands is 35.
MaxMara is actually a very mysterious company. They keep the secrets of their designs and production technology within the family, and one of the family members is always the leader of the company. They do not even have an extensive web-site, telling about the company.
